In Utopia Kingdoms you are the leader of a new settlement, and have been tasked with its growth and care. You must build upon your land, and gather the resources required to grow your settlement into a mighty castle, from which to command your province. You may then create and deploy armies, to pillage and conquer the castles and land of enemy players – or to assist your allies in defence of their territories. The world of Utopia Kingdoms is vast and varied, and there are many things to learn.
Resources
There are six resources in Utopia Kingdoms. The four basic resources are Gold, Iron, Wood, and Food. You can obtain these resources by building Gold Mines, Iron Mines, the Lumbermill, and Farms. Note that none of these are a dominating resource, and are each used in differing amounts for different buildings, units, and upgrades – therefore it is important to strike a balance between your resources, based on what you have a need for. You can produce more of a given resource by assigning more people to work in a building, and by increasing the level of that building.
Settlements
Each player starts the game with a single settlement, but can grow this to a maximum of 10 total settlements/castles. You may gain more castles by conquering an enemy in battle. All of a player’s castles can be captured, with the exception of one – your capital – but note, if your capital is inactive for 14 days or more, enemy players are allowed to capture it once more.
Buildings
All buildings within the game have a different purpose, and can grant different bonuses and additional features. Certain buildings are used primarily for resource gathering and protection, others allow you to train different types of units, and yet more grant other special functions.
It is worth noting that you can increase the rate of production in some of your buildings by setting how much of your population is assigned to work there. If you click on certain buildings – for example the Gold Mine or the Training Grounds, you will see a slider widget – you can move this up/down to increase/decrease the number of people working there. If all your people are at work, the slider will not increase beyond a certain level – in which case, you should reduce the number of workers in another building – or build more Homes, to accommodate more people. If all your buildings have the maximum number of workers, but you still have spare population, it is time to add another level to some of your buildings.
The Races
A diverse set of creatures inhabit the lands of Utopia. Though many creatures live amongst the woods and in the seas of the world, only a few have developed sufficiently to form societies and communities which you can lead. There are nine Utopian races to choose from, described in detail on their individual pages.
Random Events
Every night in the game, up to 3% of players will receive random events. These can be either positive or negative. These events will happen to a random settlement of these players. If the event is a resource-gain event, resources are added to/reduced from the resource’s production for the last 5 hours. If it is a stored-resource event, resources are added to/reduced from the currently stored resources at the time of the event.
Dynasty
The dynasty is very important for every major ruler. In Utopia Kingdoms every ruler has 1-3 sons and 1-3 daughters – they are randomly created on registration. These children may be married to the sons and daughters of other leaders, to form alliances. The benefits to marriage are a reduction in march time to that player, by 15% – note that if you have two children married to the children of any one player, the reduction is always only 15%.
The Hero
Your hero gains experience, and levels up. The maximum reachable level is currently level 36. Each time your hero levels, he will gain points, which you can spend on skills for your hero to train in. See the skills page for more information on spending skill points.
Battle Units
Your army is composed of a number of different unit types, Infantry, Archers, Cavalry, Wizards, and Special Units. You can train Infantry and Archers in your Barracks, Cavalry in your Stables, Wizards in your Guild, and Special Units – including Race-Specific Units – in your Order.
Attacking
On attacking a castle, the attacker will first fight only the defender’s army – if the attacker wins, he will then fight any reinforcements at that castle. Once the attacker has defeated all opposition, or in the event of a draw, he may steal resources.
Unit Statistics
All units have a set of statistics that will affect them in battle – some of these statistics can be improved by researching unit upgrades from the Training Grounds, and attacks may also be improved by applying motivations.
Attack Formation
Each unit has a strictly defined place on the battlefield – and it is left to you to decide this place. You may arrange your army in different formations under the “Army” menu using the “Army Order” option, and then save up to 10 of these formations for easy access when you need them. You may also select a default attack formation, to be used by your army when you are offline.
