Duels is a new kind of strategy game. A free, player vs. player (PVP) fantasy role playing game, Duels allows you to control your own destiny as you combine the detailed character building and advancement of massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMORPGs) with the strategic and collectible elements of collectible card games (CCGs).
The tantalizing thing about Duels, though, is that it’s a short-form, asynchronous game. You can jump in and play in 10-30 minute intervals and still advance your gameplay. You control everything about the game with the luxury of playing when you have time. This makes you the master of Duels, not the other way around.
Once you sign up, it’s your job to create your avatar combining the perfect selection of attributes, skills, battle experience and equipment needed to best your opponents in head-to-head combat.
You can also buy equipment, including packs containing random useful loot. This comes in handy when you want to trade and sell items to other players. You never know what people will covet.
With each duel, you get to further customize your special abilities and collectible items. The rewards you gain from winning a duel can be used to win gold and tokens, as well as to increase your physical and mental attributes.
Create Your Character
Choose from millions of combinations to create a unique Avatar to take into battle. Red hair, blue skin, pointy ears – sounds like an elf. Tattoos, a few scars and a nice tan – maybe a mean barbarian. Be funny, flashy, fierce, friendly, feminine or as fantastic as you want to be.
There are some attributes about the character:
Strength: Increases health, as well as the ability to do melee damage.
Speed: Increases chance to hit as well as Precision. The primary determinant of who attacks first.
Intelligence: Increases magical abilities.
Perception: Measures Character’s awareness of their surroundings. Increases chance to land critical strikes, as well as Precision.
Stamina: Increases health.
Resist: Increases chance to resist scrolls and spells.
Precision: Increases your dodge, chance to hit, and chance to get a Critical Strike. You cannot directly increase Precision, it is impacted by your Speed, Perception, and Level.
Pick Your Gear
The Armory has thousands of items for sale and trade by other players. The only limit to what you can wear is your Power Rating and the size of your coin purse. You start with a pocket full of gold and a Power Rating of 25. Use your money wisely to choose lower Power items at first. Your wealth and power will increase over time.
Equip Your Avatar
A Loadout is the group of equipment that you will take into battle. Once you have acquired a new item, you will need to go to the Loadouts screen to place the item on your Avatar. Remember that the equipment you wear has a Power Rating that cannot be higher than your own. Be sure to Save any changes you make to your Loadout.
Quest
Accepting a Quest is a good way to earn special items and gain valuable experience. Who knows what wonderful surprises and knowledge you’ll find!
Quests are an undertaking of epic proportions! It’s your chance to go out and prove that you are truly worthy to be a Duelist. They are missions that you can complete in order to get rewards. Once you reach certain Milestones, different quests will become available to you. Upon completing these you will get rewards.
The earliest quests are a good tutorial for the main game and they are a good place to start playing the game. After following the first few quests you will not only have a strong foundation of knowledge about the game but also will have bought some useful equipment and gained levels and experience. An example of a quest would be “Ah…Another Aspiring Duelist” the quest requires that you go to the armory and buy a piece of armor and equip it using the loadout manager.
Enter The Arena
It’s time to duel! There are two types of fights: skirmishes and challenges. A skirmish is great for practicing. Skirmishes don’t show up on your record but they also have smaller rewards than challenges. Challenges are sent to the other player for them to accept if they dare or reject if they feel they aren’t up to the challenge. Remember other players will be skirmishing you and sending you challenges as well. These are real duels that count on your record, give you more experience points, and better rewards. Don’t worry too much about your record early on though, you will have the opportunity to wipe it clean.
Collect Loot
Fighting in the Arena, you will gain gold that you can spend in the Armory on weapons and armor. You will also receive experience that increases your level and as your level increases so does your Power Rating. Tokens are the last thing you receive after your fight. Save your tokens to purchase Packs in the Shop. Packs contain items, scrolls and gold. Some items are extremely rare as well as extremely powerful. Opening more packs gives you a better chance to find items that will aid you in destroying your opponents.
