The Aim of the Game
The aim in Ferion is simple: take control of as many planets as possible. Planets are essential to an empire’s survival, and if you do not have enough of them, you cannot support your fleets or keep up with research.
Ferion is first and foremost a war game. While there are certainly political and social elements to the game which you will need to keep track of, you cannot expect to survive forever without going to war with someone, so you should be prepared for this from the beginning. Note that while settling is the main focus in the early stages there is still some scope for early warfare so be wary of players you meet and keep an eye out for opportunities to take cheap planets from opponents.
Moving Out
One of the most important screens in Ferion is the ships screen. While planets are the life blood of your empire and the measure of your success, ships are the tools by which you acquire and protect those planets. If you do not see any ships listed when you first enter the screen, click on the ‘Previous’ button. You should see a single ship called ‘Settle ship’. This ship is a gift from the Ferion warlords to get you started towards exploration and expansion. As well as being a gift, this ship is special in that it costs nothing to maintain.
Research
Since you have assigned some people to be scientists you need a project for them to work on. In the research screen where you will assign the topics that your empire will research. Advances in technology bring a host of benefits, from better spaceship engines to planetary buildings or weapons and shields. You will start with some small projects to get you started. In Change current research project, you will find the factory, and start this research project. You should see that the current project at the top of the screen changes to factory and a picture of a factory also appears. A factory is a building that once researched, can be built on a planet. The factory will then produce extra production points each turn speeding up the building of further structures.
