Another Final Fantasy MMO Coming

Square Enix seems to never get tired of announcing new projects. The publisher has just released Dragon Quest IX in Japan, with the JRPG proving to be a success with players, as sales sky rocketed.

Final Fantasy XIII, the next iteration in the long running franchise, is set to arrive in late 2009 in Japan, exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and in early 2010 in the rest of the world, and the company announced at E3 that it planned to create another Final Fantasy MMO, of which little is known at the moment.

Now, the company appears to be close to announcing yet another project with a teaser site up counting down to something unspecified. Initially, the site linked above only showed the Roman numerals “VII.” Then, they went down to “VI” only for the replacement to be “VII Days.” It is now showing “IV Days” and it will probably go through some more iterations before something is actually shown.

Square Enix seems to be interested in creating a connection with Final Fantasy VII, maybe the most critically acclaimed role playing game it has ever developed, but that does not mean that the new project will have a true connection with the world depicted in it.

Internet reports suggest that the new project will be a home console remake of a title available via arcade, Lord of Vermilion. Apparently, the company already has a trademark pending for Lord of Arcana and it has shown a propensity of bringing all the arcade titles to console gamers.

Interestingly, the site teasing the new project has 0807 in its title, which could mean that on the seventh day of August, in four days, Square Enix will actually show gamers the title it has in development. Until then, you can enjoy the countdown.
