UPDATE: An EA representative has assured MTV Multiplayer that the Michael Jackson costumes for Battlefield Heroes will be free. Rejoice!
ORIGINAL STORY: The tragic passing of pop music icon Michael Jackson has sent ripples through the entertainment industry, with nearly every newspaper, television station, and website offering its own unique tribute to the King of Pop. But in this age of persistent online worlds and DLC, how long would it take before videogames took a stab at honoring Mr. Jackson? About five days, it turns out.
Starting next month, players of Battlefield Heroes will be able to purchase in-game costumes styled after some of Michael Jackson’s most recognizable outfits. Characters in the Royal Army will have access to a suit much like the one Jackson wore in the “Smooth Criminal” video, while members of the National Army will get a leathery, buckle-filled getup along the lines of the one used in the video for “Bad”.
It’s uncertain how much these clothing options will set you back when they arrive this July, but don’t expect them to be on the house. The free-to-play shooter doesn’t currently offer much in the way of free upgrades — clothing or otherwise. Besides, if everyone in Battlefield Heroes could dress like Micheal Jackson free of charge, would anyone really want to go back to generic military uniforms?
