One of the big releases of this fall will be DJ Hero, Activision’s attempt at establishing a new spin off from the Guitar Hero franchise, which comes packed with a new controller, designed to look and behave like a DJ table.

The company is saying that the title was developed to attract a whole array of new gamers, maybe as much as 300 million, to the music games genre, which until now has only targeted those who were interested in pop, rock and country songs.

DJ Hero is set to offer a more eclectic mix of artists and will receive even more tracks via the customary downloadable content. Still, gamers expressed some doubt over the suggested retail price of the new game, which seems high even for a product that comes complete with a new controller.

Representatives of Activision told gaming site Eurogamer that “We don’t comment on our product pricing strategies. However, we believe that DJ Hero will provide tremendous value for our consumers by delivering an all-new interactive music experience with over 100 individual songs that are highlighted in over 80 unique mixes, a wide variety of music from some of the biggest artists including Jay-Z, Eminem, Benny Benassi, Gwen Stefani and Black Eyed Peas among others.”

Reports have suggested that the price of DJ Hero might reach 120 dollars in the United States and over 107 British pounds in the United Kingdom, which is quite a bit over what gamers were accustomed to paying for games in the Guitar Hero series. And this bigger price is being implemented by Activision just as the United States, Britain and Europe, the biggest markets for videogames, are going through a tough economy.

The calls for the fans for a lower price and the limited money they might have available for videogame purchases might generate lower than expected sales for DJ Hero, when it arrives for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii on November 13.
